What causes knee pain?
Knee pain may be due to various injury-related reasons, including damage to your knee bone, ligaments, cartilage, muscles or tendons, or bursitis, which is swelling of the fluid-filled sacs that cushion the knee. It can also be caused by arthritis and, in relation to the knee, can include gout, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and septic arthritis (an infected knee). Another cause is patellofemoral pain syndrome. This is where you have pain around your kneecap (patella), which runs over the end of your thigh bone (femur).
